Your Career in Aerospace
Ever thought of working for one of the largest civil aircraft manufacturers in the world? Would you like the opportunity to be part of a first-class, global business with the prospect of continuous training, career development and advancement?
If the answer is yes to any or all of these questions, then Bombardier’s 'Your Career in Aerospace' workshops could be for you.
Following the success of last year’s workshops, Bombardier is providing another exciting chance for students to learn more about its Modern Apprenticeship Programme by inviting students in Key Stage 3 and above to attend a half day workshop at W5.
Apprentices on Bombardier's Training Programme in a Short Sealand aircraft currently being restored at the Ulster Folk & Transport Museum, Cultra.
'Your Career in Aerospace'
workshops, run by Bombardier’s Education Liaison unit, offer an informative and insightful introduction to the various opportunities available to those with an interest in pursuing a career in engineering and aerospace, as well as practical advice on how to apply for Bombardier’s highly competitive Modern Apprenticeship Programme.
The half-day 'Your Career in Aerospace' workshop includes:
-
A practical ‘hands-on’ session with current Bombardier engineers and apprentices. This workshop aims to provide an interesting insight into the day-to-day activities involved throughout the training course and a ‘taster’ for the specialist skills that you can learn during a career with Bombardier. It will also provide a chance to discuss a variety of aerospace topics such as manufacturing, engineering and aircraft design.
-
An informative presentation on the Bombardier Modern Apprenticeship Programme and the career paths available at Bombardier.

-
An awe-inspiring flight show hosted in the lecture theatre.
Pupils will also get the chance to take a tour of W5 and look at various exhibitions on flight.
Bombardier’s Modern Apprenticeship Programme is available to males and females. It offers the possibility of joining one of two Apprenticeship Programmes: the
Trainee Technician Engineer Programme
and the
Craft Trainee Programme.
Trainee Technician Engineers will undertake a three-year training course. Successful candidates will graduate to work in either the Design Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering Departments, in positions such as Computer Aided Design Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer or Tool Designer.
Craft trainees will also receive three years’ training and, if successful, will graduate to work on the shop floor as a skilled tradesperson such as an aircraft fitter, machinist or sheet metal worker.
Both apprenticeship programmes require a minimum GCSE grade C in both Mathematics and English Language. In addition, to qualify for the Trainee Technician Engineer Programme, students must also achieve a minimum of grade C in two other GCSE subjects, one of which must be Physics or Double Award Science.
